i am very concerned with obama's interest in eliminating the coal industry, especially since we get 70% of our electricity from coal and our electric bills would go up, as obama has even stated.

You misrepresent Obama's actual words.

Do you support coal subsidies paid by the US taxpayer? Why? Isn't that socialism?

I feel that we should try to get our energy from clean technology and we should persue that in the next 20 years. It will take a lot of research which will provide many white and blue collar jobs.

I would like to see the use of coal for electricity to go away. It won't happen over night, but it will be a good thing. I would also like to see the use of oil go away. As you switch old energy for newer and cleaner fuels you also create a lot of jobs. Perhaps even more better well paying jobs than what the coal industry requires.

Why do republicans hate pushing for newer technology. Their idea is to always stay with the same. Drill, Drill, Drill they say. But never "lets expand our technology into green energy." What is wrong with advancing technology into the future?

I agree that it is best for the market to do this. But You do need government assistance in energy policy. If it was up to the republicans we would just destroy the earth looking for the last natural resource to burn instead of studying cleaner, safer, and better technology for energy that will be better for generations down the road.

New technology means creating new shady deals for politicians to get paid. Until there is more money in new technology than in old technology it's not worth creating new deals and chancing getting caught.

Actually he didn't misrepresent a thing , you can hear the entire interview.

It is about Obama wanting to make the coal industry go bankrupt, and nothing about subsidizing it.

Guess what , over 50 % of our electricity is generated by coal fired plants.
the economies of a whole lot of midwestern and eastern coal belt states is based on the coal industry.

it is a viable and through clean coal tech environmentally safe source of domestic power.

Obama has said this

these are direct quotes

" My policies will bankrupt the coal industry" and " My policies will cause energy costs to skyrocket."

those are his exact words .

If he is elected he has stated that he would tax your electric bill as well so your average cost for electricity would jump by as much as 30-50 dollars a month.

as an answer to the OP

NO I do not agree with Obama on this issue.

Old technology also involves shady deals for pols. I don't condone that stuff, but it's no reason not to pursue cleaner technolgy.

oh and there isn't shady deals with oil companies

Come on. As a engineer in green technology I dispise the republicans stance on anything with energy policy.

I should just give up and join the "drill, drill, drill Alaska" chants at a Palin rally.

Settle down, no matter what there will always be jobs in powering America. It is really hard to outsource our energy supply. I don't think they will be running high voltage electric lines over the Pacific from China.
