LOL, I don't think they were the only reason. But, I do think they played an important role. By launching the whole Rev. Wright attack they effectively neutralized the issue. Which means they ruined the GOP's best bet for an October Surprise. People had time to think about it... and get bored with it. Obama had time to defend it, and got the chance to show himself as a fighter who could go up against a serious attack.
