Most people on this thread or forum will argue that "biparisanship" is some great wonderful goal that we all should aspire to. Let's not worry about specific issus and outcomes...what's most important is that we all get along....LOL
Which of course is BS. The Democratic Party platform jives with the majority opinion of Americans on almost EVERY SINGLE MAJOR ISSUE.
The "goal" is to get this pro middle class platform passed....not to coddle right wingers so they promise to to cry like little babies.
We need less bipartisanship and more partisanship so we can get things done.
And bankrupt the country along with devaluing the dollar in so doing!!

If you're worried about the country going bankrupt, and the dollar falling, then you should have been vocally opposing Bush during his tenure - because he accomplished both...
I'm no big fan of the GOP as it currently stands, Bush included. Hence, the vote for Barr.
Instead of criticizing Bush (whose Presidency is 99.9% in the past), why not encourage the incoming administration to act in a responsible way? Why not learn from the mistakes of the Bush administration instead of continuing to blame them when your guy takes over and things continue to go South? Why not focus on cutting spending and the size and scope of Government and reducing entitlements?
Bush bashing maybe fun, but it is not productive. Obama and his team should learn from Bush's mistakes (and the good things he did as well). All people want to is ridicule and insult Bush. We'll see how large the budget deficit and national debt are and how much the Dollar has fallen by the time Obama runs for re-election.
quote=KevK;6731634]It is obvious that the nation has pretty much given President a mandate to do as he sees fit. With big majorities in the House and Senate, the Democrats can steamroll about anythng they want onto Obama's desk. The Republicans really do not have much to fight with so they will probably have to choose their battles wisely. There are many things the Republicans would love to kill but they will probably just pick a few to try and stop. What do you think they will really fight about?[/quote]
The questions assume a level of polarized partisanship that does not exist.
There are a significant number of Blue Dog Democrats in Congress , as well as many moderate Republicans.
And Mr. Obama is growing more moderate as he learns the job.

When are you going to get thru your head that people don't want less government programs....they want more? Polls show this. Taxation is far down the list if issues they say is important to them.
The GOP never could and never will win by pushing less government...that's why they use cultual divides to divert attention away from their real agenda.

Because our economic position at the present time doesn't allow for that. We're in a recession and it will probably get worse. Cutting spending (or raising taxes) to pay down the deficit is something that should have been done when the economy was in better shape.
I think the Democrats in Congress being 100% behind Obama is an unlikely event. The more Obama is introduced to classified material, and getting all his briefings he has moved away from what is considered "Lefty" thinking, and is more of a Centrist. I suspect that is why he hasn't appointed any left wing loonies for his administration. It also explains his willingness to put Republicans on his staff.
We shall see where the "fight" is going to happen, but to be honest the only "real" fight Republicans have put up lately was against the financial and auto industry bailouts.

Please read this editorial from Paul Krugman, Nobel Award Winning Economist, about the dangers of cutting government spending and balancing the budget during a recession: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/29/op...gman.html?_r=1
A quote from the article: No modern American president would repeat the fiscal mistake of 1932, in which the federal government tried to balance its budget in the face of a severe recession. The Obama administration will put deficit concerns on hold while it fights the economic crisis."
I can't deny Krugman's credentials, but disagree with him on this one. We need to borrow money to pay the interest on what we owe. Going further into debt is one of the worst things we can do, IMO. Eventually, our credit line will be shut off or tightened. At that stage, we might turn to the printing press which would spell disaster.
I think our taxes are way too high b/c Governments wastes way too much of our money. A lot of Gov employees are very unproductive and don't care b/c they know their job is secure. Not to mention what we waste on pork and other useless expenditures. From this election forward, cutting Government waste is going to be one of the major factors I look for in a candidate.
I am a strong supporter of tax cuts, but now think that McCain was right in opposing the Bush tax cuts b/c they were not matched with spending cuts. My focus is first on reducing spending and then cutting taxes.
