The Obama people are claiming this is not in response to the outcry over Rick Warren, but I find that hard to believe. Either way, it's good to see...too bad they just don't replace the homphobic Warren with Rev. Robinson completely.

Quote:
The Rt. Rev. V. Gene Robinson of New Hampshire, who became the Episcopal Church’s first openly gay bishop in 2003 and last year entered into a civil union with his gay partner, will deliver the invocation for Sunday’s kickoff inaugural event on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, with President-elect Obama in attendance.

As a republican, I have to say that I like the idea of this inclusiveness and the idea that we should put our petty squabbles aside and work together as a country to make it great again. We can't do that with all the stupid infighting brought about by religious zealots, racists, socialists, greenies, [insert stupid special interest group that always seems to completely miss the point]...

Well, as an Anglican who knows what turmoil and schism this bishop has brought to our church, I guffawed when I read the story. It's not so much that V. Gene Robinson is gay, it's that he sees the world, God, and ministry as revolving around him and his gayness. The dude is CONSTANTLY on tour talking about being gay.

It will be fun to see if Robinson remembers that the event is actually about Obama's inauguration and a change in leadership in the country, rather than serving as an event for Robinson himself. Yes, he's THAT narcissistic.

Inclusiveness should never go so far as to make acceptable those who fight to deny basic civil rights to anyone else. They are cretins, and should be spit upon rather than offered a place at the table.

Oh, I don't know. I just found out that Rev. Joseph Lowery a co-founder of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference has been long scheduled to give the benediction, yet I haven't read a single report on that fact. So, who knows for how long this pastor has been scheduled.

When Robinson and the rest of the LGBT community are given the basic civil rights all the rest of us enjoy, maybe he won't have to talk about it anymore.

Clearly, you have no idea what a Christian bishop is supposed to do. Hint: It has nothing to do with endorsing presidential candidates and going on endless book tours to promote oneself.
