Last night President-Elect Obama attended a special dinner for him hosted by conservative columnist, George Will at his home in DC. Here's a partial list of those in attendance: Peggy Noonan\ Charles Krauthammer\ William Kristol\ David Brooks\ Paul Gigot, etc. Former Republicans [some are regulars on FOX news] who now dine with a Democratic president & express their admiration for Obama

At least two of them endorsed Obama over McCain (Will and Brooks).

What you have to understand is that these people are still conservatives. They have not turned liberal Democrat like you would like to think. They endorsed Obama because Mccain was not a good choice. Mccain represented the neocon agenda which is NOT conservative. Same with 15% of Obama's vote. If there had been a true conservative candidate run out there by the right, the Dems would not have won. You can thank the hatred of Bush and the neocon agenda for Democrat victory, but don't think that conservatives are jumping over to the Dem party because if they get a good candidate from the right, they WILL vote right again.

You mean they behaved like adults? Why wouldn't they?

Speaking for myself, it would have been mighty embarassing if they had chosen to wine about "stolen elections", shout "he's not MY President" and behaved like spoiled children who didn't get their way.

Winning and losing elections with grace and maturity seems to have been on the wane over the years.

George Will, the conservative's conservative, surprised me with the tone of his columns during the campaign. I have gained new respect for him. Unlike some conservative (and liberal) columnists, he is willing to call out his party when they are wrong. I appreciate that. People like Limbaugh (who is an entertainier not a thinker) support their party right or wrong and spin the facts. Will has been honest, has avoided spin, and is about to turn me into a conservative. (Never mind. That will never happen.) But this is a good thing and a good sign that Obama's administration will not be blindly leftist. I hope this is the beginning of a new era of bipartisan support of our president. It has been a long time coming.

"Liberal" and "democrat" are not interchangeable terms. It is very possible to be both conservative and democrat. And, as we saw in November, many conservatives feel comfortable voting for a democrat, no matter what party they are registered with.

Yeah. That would have been embarrassing. But only because Obama actually won his election.

If you think the GOP loses with grace, check out Minnesota.

All of the journalists\ columnists were the "old guard" of what the GOP was like before Bush & even before Reagan. Their standards of credibility & common sense drove them away from President Bush. I watched David Brooks on PBS while he expressed disbelief & disgust for Bush & felt betrayed by what the GOP has become.

These are smart people who can recognize a smart leader in Obama. They likely will disagree with some of Obama's policies but the respect for the Oval Office has come back to America

That's not exactly true. I have heard him a number of times slam McCain during the campaign.
