I'll confess, I don't post in here and I don't even read in here but as I am confined to my hospital bed this morning watching all of the tv coverage of the inauguration it popped into my head: all of the race stuff surrounding Obama focuses on one half of his heritage. I think the fact that he is of both races is to be celebrated; not one race more than the other. I do understand the significance of someone with African American heritage to make it to the office.
I just wondered what else everyone thinks about this? I am not looking for an argument, just your thoughts. Thanks in advance!
Caucasians don't have heritage to celebrate, silly. Plain ole whitebreads are nothing special; and keep in mind, if we celebrate anything related to our ethnicity, we're racists. We should be unhappy about being white; because celebrating our heritage means other heritages and races are inferior. And that's racist.
In our society, if you are mixed race, then by default you are identified as the minority race because that is what people see. I think it is wonderfully symbolic that Obama embodies both races, along with a unique personal history.
We don't celebrate his Caucasian heritage any less than we celebrate his African heritage. This is America and no matter what he is he'll always be viewed as black so if that side gets more attention this is the reason why.
Remember the standard answer to the question from kids: "If there's a Mother's Day and a Father's Day, how come there's no kid's day?"
"Because every day is kid's day."
Well, in a sense, every day in America is white people's day. There's no reason to celebrate a white person being elected - it's not do to that white person overcoming tremendous barriers that have kept white people down.
And any pathetic commenter who whimpers about how they'll be called racists if they say that it's unfair that Obama's white race can't be celebrated, or that they'll be called a racist just for proposing that, is nothing but a damn fool.

Because Lord knows white people don't overcome barriers.
Your post proves my point. Thanks--
Hey, I thought we were living in a post-racial world now. At what point will "equality" be equal? Why can't I wear a "Say it loud, I'm white and proud" tee shirt? Or be a member of the White Panthers? Because I'd be brought in for questioning as a white supremacist, that's why. Yet, all I'd be doing is celebrating my heritage. Supposedly that's okay.
We've elected an inexperienced, idealistic socialist as our president. He's half black. But the important part about his election is the half of him who's black? Hell, his ancestors weren't even slaves.
It irks me that all that matters is his race; not what he stands for. If he were a white guy with silly deluded ideas, he wouldn't have made it out of Chicago.
VFTP That guy's awesome lol. Can't see the video from work but his "Obama Goggles" video is hysterical.
Posted that sucker already. He may be fringe left, but at least the guy's got principles.
"Vilsack! Feel dirty saying it" LOL
