The republicans are taking as big a gamble as Papa Smurf did by picking the Thrilla from Wasilla to be the policy makin' president of the Senate ... you betcha

Obama should have let the Republican have their say early in the debate and had the Dems crush their crippling amendments in committee. Then he should have rammed his bill through the Senate. Republican pork, tax cuts, goes directly to the big fortunes and bypasses any constructive work in the process.
I sincerely hope he adopts a “No more nice guy” attitude toward the Republicans and their states while implementing this recovery plan.

Wow, you really have us scared down here
Like Texas needs any of those dollars with the great economy and wealth we have down here. keep it and give it to the Lib states that are almost broke
Every time I read an anti-Michelle comment, I get a rush of deja vu from the Clinton days...
I guess First Ladies are supposed to be seen and not heard.... even if they're exceptionally bright and qualified.
As for Krugman's comments.... he's right. And he's not the equivalent of quoting Limbaugh. He's not a pundit. He's an economist. Show me Limbaugh's qualifications. Let's all get together and read his CV.
The only difference is the invisible Ds and Rs next to their names...
The REAL issue here is the Democrats reaching out so they can place the blame on Republicans when this package fails. The stimulus package is standard practice for recovery from recession; Cut taxes and increase government spending while praying that the growth will pay off the deficit.
By and large college professors are in that occupation because they are useless. The worth of the nobel prize was trashed when they handed one to al gore

So you give credibility to someone because they went to an Ivy league institution right. George Bush want to Yale, which is an Ivy League institution, so I guess he gets credibility from you as well, or is it only when they support a liberal cause
I'm not sure I understand why the Democrats are looking for Republican support. Don't the Democrats have the majority in both the Senate and House? Seems like they are afraid to take all the credit/blame for the Stimulus package. Kind of makes you question how well thought out the plan is.
If they think its such a great plan, push it through and deal with the consequences. If it works by 2010, they'll have more Democrats in the House and Senate. It it fails, they'll have less.
The Republicans should have stayed out of the process completely. After all, Biden himself said that even if they do everything right that there is still a 30% chance it will fail. Let the Democrats have their way and if it fails, oh well. If it is successful they can always say that they did not attempt to change anything or obstruct it. Can't loose either way.
