I've been working on my 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee since I got it. But, I'm not a mechanic by any means. I have no idea what's wrong half the time and I need someone who has worked on vehicles for a long time and can determine what's wrong with it without going over my head and fixing or adding things to the list of things that need fixed.

Is there any places around this area that won't try and screw me over? I've ultimately given up hope because every mechanic I've been to doesn't know what they are talking about, or they tell me that a bunch of parts need replaced when I know they are fine (for example, my starter was nearly brand new at the time and a Cottage Grove mechanic told me I would need a new one, when in fact it was a short in my battery that was causing me problems).

C & L Automotive on West 11th in Eugene. The owner is Steve Clem. He kept my husband's car on the road about 8 years after another mechanic told him that he needed a new motor.

Although I will say that electrical issues are hard to diagnose and fix. My first car had one and I can't tell you how many good components it ate before we finally fixed the cause of all the problems.
