Just a general question, everywhere I went in these cities... people walked their dogs, let them crap on the sidewalk and just left it.
The cities were beautiful, and fun... but the smell and having to constantly make sure I'm not walking in a pile of crap was annoying. Why don't people pick it up and trash it? Just curious..
True, but at least dog crap rots and disappear one day, whereas the last trend in Paris (worse for the environment) is to discard one's pop or beer can or plastic bottle or half eaten sandwich in its plastic wrapping and many other "nice" refuse (Qtips, even pampers)directly in the street or in flowerbeds or bushes, everywhere in fact.
Its obvious you have never stepped in dog sxxx and tracked it into your house or car.
But now I'm guarded, so it never happen to me anymore!
no kidding, dog crap was-and still is in some places-an awful Parisian features,
but now we have (slightly less) dog crap + refuse! so in one word, right, Paris is dirty!
Could cleaning up after a pet just be an American thing (and often a law)?
It's a law here in the Netherlands as well. To be honest I'm surprised that Skrizzle was bothered by the dog crap in Amsterdam cause it's not really known to be a 'dirty' city afaik but maybe he/she was just unlucky. I've heard of stories about Paris being a dirty city and that the air smells there but I didn't have any problems when I went there and the air was just fine. Maybe I was lucky?
Anyway, I do think it's disgusting when people don't clean up after their dogs, especially when it's in places where a lot of people walk (like pavements).
I have always thought that Amsterdam has a worse dog crap problem than Paris simply because the streets are more difficult to clean. All of the streets and sidewalks of Paris are washed and brushed every day, but those areas along the edges of the canals in Amsterdam are not, and a lot of them are really disgusting.
