This is an odd article. It's based on an assumption that American liberals became wary of or opposed to Russia (or to you-know-whom, specifically) only since Trump's election, which is ridiculous.
Obama, Clinton and their supporters use Russia to pressure Trump. They very, very dexterously put the bomb under Trump, they use his ideas against him. This works for domestic politics, but US is also largest international player. This makes situation dangerous and stupid. Perhaps Americans do not understand this, but the struggle with Russia can end sadly for everyone.
+ sadly for everyone = sadly for everyone, including Russia, of course.
