If you have the opportunity to safely drink tap water and you don't, the amount of plastic trash you will probably create is disgraceful.

Spent 9 years in Germany, never drank the tap water. In our briefing upon arrival in country we where instructed not to drink the tap water. Well, we probably did a few times but for the most part we drink bottled water. Used the tap water for everything else.

Portuguese tap water is fine! If not then a majority of people would be sick or dead as a majority of people drink tap water.

Another post which shows how stupid and xenophobic You are.

where i live in Germany, you can drink tap water without any problems. When i was on holiday in other countries, you often couldn't drink it but that doesn't mean that locals can't drink it also. We Europeans are very sensitive in terms of hygiene. Everything is sterile here...

Most people here prefer to buy their water from the beverage store.

Thanks for all the replies!

It's strange the amount of people who are picky on water. I went to Costa Rica in 2008, where the water is much more sketchy, drank the tap water, and didn't get the least bit sick. But it sounds like in Europe, you are generally pretty safe, like here in the US. There are some spots, like New Orleans, where it's not good and some spots where it's hard and unsavory, but by and large pretty good. But even in my neighborhood here in CO, one well has really good tap water while one an aquifer higher has harder water.

I asked this because when my family went to the Czech Republic a while back, whenever they asked for water, all they got was bubbly sparkling water.

Netherlands, Austria, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland: Yes
France, Italy, Spain: big cities might be okay, but not sure about rural areas
Other countries: you should find another source.
