Turin is near the 45th parallel north. So we are practically in the middle way between the equator and the north pole. The 45th parallel is not exactly in the middle because the Earth is not a sphere.
My consideration on latitude..referred to Italy and Europe.
44 is crucial for Italy.. Below it..begins to start the centro-meridional italian dialects.
45 is very important for all of Europe: below it starts Southern Europe..:
* 45 in France is the division of langue d oil vs langue d oc; so northern France vs southern France
* 45 in Italy is the division of true northern Italy..that has more of a centre European flavor. Curiously the Po river flows along this parallel..
* below 45 it starts true Yugoslavia (Slovenia is up to this parallel..and it has always Been connected more with Austria and centre Europe than with Balkans)
*up to 45 is impossible to normally grow olive trees (true in France and in Italy; it s verified)..and the cuisine starts to use butter instead of olive oil
This relevant fenomenos are very important!! There are connexion between latitude and culture!!
40 latitude:
*it starts true southern italy and mode siesta -slowness on doing thing at least in the past
*it starts southern Spain..below Madrid
*in the balkans around this latitude begins Greece land.
60N. The latitude is shared with St. Petersburg and close by is Stockholm and Oslo, though their centres are in the 59th. It also go through the Shetland Islands.
At 61N total wilderness starts and all civilisation ends. Tunguska is on the 61st.
