I'm planning to check out Oslo for 4 days (Saturday through Tuesday) in October.

What can I expect weather wise?

What sort of events are happening then?

What can I expect from the culture?

What historic sites can I go see?

What can I expect from the nightlife?

What other things should I be considering to potentially look forward to?

Weather? In October in Oslo? You seriously asking? Well, if you are, highs around 10C/50F, mostly cloudy, intermittent rain. But it's peak colour, so the landscape looks gorgeous, like always.

Events in October? - None. Go watch a football (soccer) match.

Historic sites? The Royal Palace and the Opera House are worth a visit. So is the Akershus festning. Like Vikings? Go check out that ship museum.

Nightlife - expensive.

First: Four days is too long. Oslo is a small city, so 1-2 days are more than enough. Norway is VERY expensive. Fortunately for tourists, the USD-NOK, GBP-NOK or EUR-NOK currency rates are quite favorable now. I would visit Grünerløkka for dining and nightlife. The "new" Opera is worth a visit. The same goes for the National Gallery, the Viking Ship Museum and the Munch Museum.

I spent 4 days in December of 2013. Weather was no worse than it was in Boston. It wasn't freezing just cool. We had a friend who showed us around. We drove out to Kongsberg, up to the spiral in Drammen. We went to the ski lift, various museums, Akershus. We had an awesome time and could have spent longer. It was very very beautiful and I know it's not even the prettiest part of Norway.
