I think America and Canada should compete.

Completely agree, it should be taken for what it is, a weird, fun but politically influenced competion mostly because of the voting system.

As for the argument regarding Australia, i think extraeuropean countries shouldn't be allowed to partecipate since it is called Eurovision after all, it's about as ridiculous as CONMEBOL (Southamerican football federation) inviting countries which are located elsewhere to the Copa America

I think CONMEBOL only invites North American teams like US and Mexico?
Would be weird if they invited Australia or Spain.

Then it wouldn't be the Eurovision any more!

Now that Australia has been given a guest spot there will be a lot more focus here on the event even though it has always had a cult following.
I don't think its ridiculous... It's kind of amusing and a nice gesture. I've watched it for years, & it is very popular here.

This article made me laugh ....

I've just read tonight schedule, Italy will be the last one to sing! They really want me to watch the show till the end

By the way, I've also seen the rehearsal of our group. As usual they sing really well, nothing to complain about this. I'm just a little uncertain about the scene design, it seems kinda poor to me (just a couple of old roman/greek old statues in the screen and some light effect )
I've also seen a couple of other exhibitions (other rehearsal or the one of the semi-finals), and a lot of them have much more elaborate choreography (in particular I'm thinking about Sweden, the final result of song+choreography surely catches the attention.)
I would be really disappointed if we will get (again) less point that we deserve just because of a poor choreography
