Montenegro has 'off-the-charts' beauty...and not so many people. How long will that last?

I don't know how many people have been to Montenegro, but it pretty much has all the same characteristics as Croatia, but even more beautiful, if that is possible.

Gorgeous coastline, incredible mountains, etc. I'm just surprised that Croatia has been well-discovered, or so it seems, and Dubrovnik even seeming to be the Queen city of Croatia, which is right next to Montenegro, but Croatia is well-known and Montenegro is not.

I visited Kotor and Budva. They both had charming little 'Old Towns' that were quite popular with the relatively few tourists around (unlike Croatia which was chalked-filled with tourists).

In short, if anyone is thinking of visiting Croatia, but a little tourist-weary, you might want to consider Montenegro.

Oddly, I think the only tourists I really saw were Russian ones? Just across the border in Dubrovnik, I saw pretty much every tourist from everywhere, but south of it, nothing.

Take a look at Google Maps, you can't see the streets, but you can see photos in both Kotor and Budva...and get a sense of the beauty going on there.

That is true.

I was using the Euro there.

I also checked into a hotel that was only 10 euros a night. I think because there were so few tourists though, I can't imagine that being the typical price.

OP, I always recommend people visit Montenegro along with Croatia. The Bay of Kotor is to beautiful to miss, especially for people already planning to be in the vicinity (Dubrovnik). Also, the mountains are beautiful as well. There's a hotel up in the mountains somewhere, I don't remember where, that was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.

I didn't know a country outside the EU could use their currency...interesting! There weren't a lot of tourists probably because the season just started, there might be more of them in July or August.

Did you visit Bosnia&Herzegovina as well? It would be interesting to hear about that too

I lived in Montenegro for a year and yes it's beautiful except for Podgorica area. We used the euro there.
