The court said Mr. Breivik’s isolation in jail wasn’t a violation in itself, but that prison authorities had been too focused on security and hadn’t justified why he couldn’t see other prisoners.

“The prison regime implies inhuman treatment of Mr. Breivik,” Ms. Sekulic wrote. “The most important factors include the duration of [his] isolation, the inadequate justification of whether isolation is strictly necessary and limited administrative opportunity to complain.”

The court also ordered the Norwegian state to pay Breivik's legal costs of 330,000 kroner ($40,000; £28,000).

So this guy murdered 77 people, and he is complaining about his human rights? His feelings were hurt because he couldn't play with other inmates???

I dont understand this man killed a lot of people and actually has human rights?

This is how it works in a country with the rule of law.

He's been pulling that since they first took him in for questioning. He's a whiner. Everything's all about him, it's never about the carnage he caused and the families of the survivors, not to mention the trauma he caused Norwegian society. Even when he was first taken into custody and questioned immediately after the incident, he was complaining that the police weren't attending to a minor injury he sustained while gunning people down. Dozens of lives snuffed out, some at very close range, and he was whining about the police not giving him a Band-Aid for a cut he sustained. That's been his m.o. ever since.

It seems that he knows how to manipulate the broken system into his favor to make himself look like a victim. I guess you can't blame him if the government allows it.

There are prisoners in the US who make a hobby out of this sort of thing, too. They do legal research online or in the prison library, and constantly file complaints. I suppose it's a more constructive use of their time than organizing gangs and starting fights.

Yeah, and considering that Breivik is 24h a day in solitary confinement, he hasn't much else to do,

Norway has a very different approach to the prison system than US. To get an idea check the video done by Michael Moore on the Norway prisons :

Well, I'm sure he wouldn't be a danger to other prisoners if given time now and then to exercise, use the library, whatever. But you do realize, don't you, that he kept himself in solitary confinement in his mother's house for months before he committed the crime? He holed up in his bedroom and played video games all day/night. He's an extreme loner by nature.

Though re-creating in prison his disturbed preference for solitude wouldn't be therapeutic, in a prison system that's generally oriented toward rehabilitation, much more so than the US system. Apparently the legal system and society have decided he can't be rehabilitated.
