I like Crete more than Cyprus. Nature is almost the same but Cyprus is a region of a frozen conflict. Crete has the solid status more than one hundred years from 1913 as a part of Greece. This circumstance influences to economy.

Does the frozen conflict have much 'feel' to it, while in Cyprus? Or does it basically feel like you are in either Turkey or Greece, depending on what side of the Island you are living in?
Cyprus for the mixture of Greek and Turkish cultures. On Cyprus, you have lovely Mediterranean beaches, Orthodox monasteries, Roman and Greek archeological sites, Orthodox monasteries, seaside villages built by the Venetians plus the Turkish influx on the local culture (in the Northern half of the country) which brings a lovely mix.
The Greek and Turkish section of Nicosia itself are still divided by a wall in the historical center and there's a whole seaside town that was abandoned to itself when war broke out in the 70s despite it being one of the main resorts in Europe. So there are still tension but it seems that the situation is improving
Been to Mykonos, Thessaloniki(twice) and Athens but other than that only Heraklion is on my list to visit one day. The main reason is that it seems like the warmest place in Europe lol. I've never had interest in Cyprus, I link it to terrorism and authorities that steal 30% of people's bank accounts 0_0.
