In most European countries school starts on first week of September. Touristy places seems to be less crowdy by the end of August. Italy, Spain and Greece starts schools on second week of September. Beginning of school year usually ends the tourism peak season.
However some popular places are crowded year around, or as long the weather stays great.

I do know that Madrilenos leave the city for the month of August (the difference in activity in Madrid is notable) and head for the beaches. This may make it easier for tourists to do all the usual touristy things there. Hence, beaches may be crowded.

For a long time I was in a skiing forum. We would often get the question, "Where would be a great place to got for a skiing honeymoon?" I would give them a response just like I will give you:
"Do you want to ski or honeymoon? Because if you ski well you will be too tired to honeymoon well, and if you honeymoon well, you'll be too tired to ski well."
The same applies to an extensive trip. Travel can be relaxing or stressful, and there is a LOT that can go wrong on a complicated trip.
Pick a very simple itinerary with lots of time to just hang out together.
"Have a great time"
Oh, and the real answer to the ski question is "Park City"

Question - What have you *seen* in the the USA, or better said, what have you NOT seen ?

There is so much to see, in the USA and often just as majestic as in Europe !

So you are from Italian descent, so what ? You speak Italian ?

Unless like another poster mentioned, who took all their wedding garb with them and had the Pope bless their marriage and take pics, what is so important that you can not wait until later and plan for some longer vacation and at a better time ?

Nobody can guarantee that you will have a good time, and if that will not happen, it would be worst thing in your life to have a bad time right after your marriage when you still think you love each other !
