Hoping this is the right forum to ask as I didn’t get any insight on the health forum. Long story short I have a kidney stone still up in the kidney that could pass at any time and a 2 1/2 week trip to Italy and France coming up. We have travel insurance but hoping someone can give me some insight on how the healthcare is in these countries? Due to its size it should pass on its own and my doctor will send me with meds but has warned it could become an emergent situation if it gets stuck and that many people need it pain meds to pass them. Thanks for any insight you can offer!
I have also head of laser treatments to blast them our or break them up. It seems it would make sense to take care of them before you travel, even with insurance, why miss a few days of sightseeing/touring?
It is below the 5mm threshold but still large enough to be a risk for travel. He’s sending me with meds but should it get stuck it could be less pleasant. But they generally don’t want to intervene if it’s not obstructing yet.
Quality of health care in Italy, like all other public services, varies wildly across the country and steadily declines as you head south. At the extremes, the quality in the north is top-notch and on pair with France and other developed European countries whereas the quality in some hospitals in the south is sorely lacking.
The capital Rome, alas, is more southern than northern in terms of delivered quality of public services, including health care.
