I went there in 2014, nice people, but not as nice as the Irish.
My impression from movies was that Scots were great people who loved their country, but from what I saw (note: saw, I didn't talk to the people) they were very liberal in the modern sense and acted kind of cynical like liberals in America.
Are Scots like Liberal Americans, or are they more upbeat than that?
PS. Drinking alcohol doesn't count as being positive/happy.
You went to Scotland and didn't speak with anyone and your impression about Scots is from movies and not from your visit?
How many days, hours or minutes you spent there?
That needs an explanation...

Two weeks.
I asked for directions once when I was lost, it was a guided tour.
Just to clarify, being inside the country made me rethink my image of Scotland.
The people were very progressive/liberal, colored hair, piercings, etc.
Ireland was relatively more conservative than Scotland.
No Easthome, we want to have a pleasure of discussing your people behind your backs)))
My Scots side (most English people have one) is from the Inverness region, I am surprised to see the way people seem to view the Scots on here! It's that ole Hollywood thing again I guess. The real truth of it is they are pretty much the same as the English and the Welsh!! Of course they are, it's one island with no borders! Anybody that visits Glasgow and expects to see blokes wandering about in kilts are in for major disappointment. Scotland is all football, pubs and Indian restaurants just like England.

I have family in Edinburgh, and the Scots are okay, they are friendly, as are most of the English, and especially in the north. Whilst the Welsh and Irish are also friendly.
Edinburgh is a great historic and beautiful city to visit, and is also home to the famous Edinburgh Festival, whilst it's the home of Hogmanay (New Years) celebrations.
Sadly Covid has impacted these events.
Hopefully 2021 will usher in a better year than 2020.
