Last night I watched some footage of the V Olympiad that was shot in Stockholm in 1912. Needless to say it was in black & white, but the Swedish flag looked for all the world like the Finnish flag with a dark cross on a light background. Before you say that I simply mistook a random Finnish flag for the Swedish flag, let me tell you that these Swedish flags were all over the place.

A little bit of research indicates that there was a Swedish flag of a blue cross on a yellow/gold field, but use of that flag was discontinued some time before 1912. So does anyone know why the 1912 flag looked the way it did in B&W film?

Here is the best photo I can find right now. Look at the flag hanging from the tower on the right hand side, and the smaller ones flying along the top of the stadium.
