Hi there!!

I was wondering if there were any Norwegians on here or expats living in Norway that could share their opinions on this finance question.

We are a family of 4 (2 adults, 1 elementary-school-aged child and 1 baby), planning to live and buy a home in a medium-sized Norwegian city (70,000 population).

AFTER our taxes and monthly mortgage payment on our house are made, we would be left with NOK 45,000 (equivalent to USD5000/EURO 4400) for spending/saving. We do a significant amount of international travel to visit family abroad, like to occasionally eat out, would like to save a little per month, and we tend to overspend on groceries lol, but otherwise have a pretty basic lifestyle. Do you think this amount is enough for a relaxed financial life for a family of 4?? I know it sounds like a lot for some countries, but Norway is quite expensive!!, so I'd love to hear from people who actually live there.

Thanks so much in advance !!!!

Will you have a car? Or pet (dog or cat)? How much "significant amount of international travel"?

Default Yes

Based on what you noted, then yes, that should work. Notice I did not say 'should be enough'. Norway, as you noted is expensive, but only when you compare it to other countries. It is all relative.

My wife and kids live in Bergen (and I will join them soon). You will be bothered if you keep comparing costs to US costs... it is a completely different system, but once you stop the comparisons, you will be fine.

Good luck.
