I'm flying into Rome next month. I'd like to head to Naples for a couple of days. What have other folks here done to accomplish that? It's roughly a 3 hour drive. How convenient is taking the train from the airport? TIA

I have taken both the train and the plane. The train can take longer and you have to leave the airport to go to the main Rome train station.
If you can find a good connecting flight not long after arriving in Rome then the plane is convenient but it may cost a bit more

Reason: correct grammar
There’s a small city roughly halfway between Naples and Rome you should stop by for a day or two. The city is Gaeta. There is a US Navy ship stationed there. Because a US Navy ship has been there for decades there are locals who speak English well. It’s a quiet peaceful city with good food, fishing, and a few historical sites. The hotels are nice and one overlooks the beach which is clean and near a grotto.there are other small cities around Gaeta that are also worth visiting. Consider making a stop at Gaeta for a day on your way to or from Naples. It’s much cleaner and better smelling than Naples and not as “touristy” than Naples and Rome.

I went there decades ago. A family friend inherited a home there. My sister and her family were there last summer. They enjoyed their brine there.
