I am getting a JD from a 4th tier small regional law school (ABA approved). My grades are so-so - top 40%. I really dream and seriously plan to move to permanently live in France, UK or Switzerland. Is american JD any worth in those countries or should I not waste my time getting a JD (I am in my 2nd year part time - 2 or 3 more years to go). Money not an issue, since I got full scholarship. PLease help, it's so crucial for me... THanks so muchin advance for any response or ideas![SIZE=1]

Law degree? Probably will not work. Maybe if you can work for an American company over there. But I assume they do their legal work in the U.S. Not sure what you specialized in, but it's just a different system over there and a U.S. law degree is for the U.S.

I assume that you speak at least French, if not both French and German.

Two suggestions.

First, specialize in investment, insurance, and tax law.

Second, search for a law school in Switzerland that would allow you to do a semester (or two) as an exchange student. Assuming that you find one, perhaps your current university has an exchange program. If not, be the first to create one. Insist.

If your school is so fourth-tier that there is no specialization as mentioned above or the school administrators don't know where Canada is, then switch to a law school that has an exchange program with Switzerland, or ditch law altogether and try a different route.

If language is a problem, try the same thing with the UK, you should be able to find a law school that offers exchange programs.

In any case, at your stage, it sounds like an exchange program or an internship is your best bet.

Good Luck!
