How important is posture? For working out and everything else? I get a discount at my college at the chiropractor, and I am thinking of going to have better posture. I also been doing work outs at the gym to help my posture and to cut down on slouching.

So a chiropractor is going to adjust you and give you better posture?
I think posture is important but I think you have to make an ongoing conscious decision to improve it. Better muscle tone helps, but it alone won't give give you better posture.
Posture is important, past looks, correct posture allows you full ROM on exercises and will prevent problems in the future as you age.
First you need to determine what posture corrections, if any, are needed. There is no reason you need to go to a specialist for this unless you think it is something that is actually a medical problem. You should simply spend some time researching your posture problem, then researching ways to correct it as there are specific stretches and exercises.
Well bad posture run's on my dad's side of the family. I went before and it helped alot. And hey if it's only ten bucks because I am student why not? I will go to a chiropractor til I am in a good position.
Very important. poor posture is going to set you up for injury. However, I don't believe that a chiro can fix your posture with adjustments. Although, they will tell you they can. Just count on going & going & going & going. Those $10 visits will add up quickly. IMO you need a functionally strengthening & flexibility program....with either a personal trainer who has rehab experience or a certified Pilates instructor, or even a physical therapist. Every modality has their own cue or way of explaining how to correct postural issues. You need to find the modality whose instruction makes sense to you. it's really helpful to have a professional watch you as you are learning the exercises, to make sure you are doing them correctly & effectively. You won't get that from a video or a book.
The one I saw at my first college I would go once a month. And then stopped when my posture was good. I think a trainer would be more money. But my gym has one to ask basic questions.
My shoulders lean forward from the heavy backpack problem during the high school.
Rather than paying a chiro a lot of money I would look at self help. Not saying you couldn't go to the chiro once specifically for a consultation. But if he started saying I needed to come in all the time I would be outta there. Instead look up posture correction for yourself. Here's a few links:
If you were lucky, you had a other who said "Strand up straight". Posture won't add any more years to your life, but will add a lot of life to your years.
As for a chiropractor, I wouldn't go near one, but that's just my opnion. Go to YouTube and search for posture exercises.
The fact that you are even thinking about your posture is already putting you way ahead of most people.
I have horrible posture, always have. Its a constant battle. But when I work out I am super aware of it so I make sure my form is good. Also its important to strengthen back muscles. That helps a lot.
A chiropractor will not help with posture.
