Lol not surprising since even the thread title has incorrect information.

Size 14 (that'd be the clothes size for today's average American woman) isn't 5'4" and 140 lbs.

The thing about "averages" is that they don't paint a correct picture.

What we'd need is the median, not the mean.

That would be the size most people wear (be they men or women). And the height most people are (be they men or women).

Median for both measures would be a better indicator than average height/weight.

We would also need standardized clothing sizes. They do not exist.

We'd need to know if someone wore that size because they were muscular, flabby, or in-between.

We'd need to know if the person had a decent hip-waist ratio.

So many factors.

You can educate the kids all you want. It doesn't make a difference. Their parents need to be educated. You'd be SHOCKED at what some of my 3rd graders have in their lunch boxes, especially the portion sizes. I've banned a few items for snack in the classroom and I've had a few parents e-mail and complain.

That will never happen, but I'm fully on board with that. It would make purchasing pants a hell of a lot easier. I mostly wear dresses because the cut of women's pants is ridiculous. I'm tired of spending more money on altering just to have something fit well.

As to the bolded, I don't understand what you mean?
I had to buy pants for my son so I measured his waist and went by that. He's a 30" waist and those pants fit him perfectly.

Ha..I wish I could measure my waist and inseam and get perfectly fitting pants!

Same here. But you're right. Even if it DID happen, companies would eventually slide back to how they are now. I can't count the number of times I've heard a phrase like "I like both (brand X) and (brand Y), but I'm a size 6 in (Brand Y) and a size 8 in (Brand X) so I'm going to buy Y" So then you'll start seeing more companies that size like Y and then eventually we'll see size Z that takes it a step further.

My experience is similar to the post you quoted as well...I've always had a much larger waist than the measurement of my pants indicated. Maybe it's where your son wears the pants? I'm not certain, but for myself and most people I know, the actual waist is larger than the size of the pants.

You must have been lucky, as it does vary a bit with who made the pants. At most places I wear a size 34 at the moment (and they're a little loose on me), but my waist is around 38". Pretty much same size as my hips, so where I wear the pants is irrelevant.

5'4" 140lbs with good body fat distribution is preferred by real men.

Only those guys in skinny jeans wants a girl that's skinny like a stick.

Hahaha, sure dude, you're the real men here, because I like normal and slim girls I'm not a real men, I'm an immature, small penis, basement living, parent leaching weirdo who couldn't handle a real woman and a real relationship. Did I forget anything?

A normal 5'4" woman should be around 119, 120 pounds, not 140.
