I was looking for a new bike and came across this:
[Mod cut]
Although some models are on sale now, they are still HUGE expensive! So I have a question… How much did you guys spend for your bike?

I needed mine just to get around the city quickly, so I bought one already used for 100 Euros. A pair of bicycle bags later and I was ready to go.

But if I wanted to go out in the hills, or off of the streets, I would have probably bought a new model.

It all depends on what you want the bicycle for, transport, general health, usw.

I have a mountain bike that I bought for 899 USD (previous year model originally priced at 2699)
I have a titanium road bike from the 90's that I bought for around $800 and then rebuilt as components started to fail (spent around $600-700 rebuilding but the bike shop said not to resell for less than $3200)

That being said, I do not anticipate ever wanting to upgrade as I have bikes that fit well and are top of the line.

Really depends how much you are going to ride. I can tell you that I started with cheap bikes and then felt the need to upgrade due to poor fit and/or not great component sets. After the second bike, I decided I was not getting anything else unless it was exactly what I wanted/needed and I would not feel the need to upgrade.

$2,000 for a Trek Superfly 7 mountain bike I bought two years ago.

The bike came with a lifetime warranty and one free tune per year from the shop I purchased it from.

I've had cheap bikes in the past and I got tired of patching them together all the time, so I went a little crazy on the spending but this is a bike that will last me years and years and years.

Spent $150 on a used Jamis I purchased from a bike shop. Great bike. Have hybrid tires on it and find it very useful for flat trails and pavement, both.

$400 Specialized disc brake hardtail that got stolen last xmas. It'll cost about $600 to replace, but I don't MTB, so I'll probably replace it with a $1200 gravel/cross/adventure bike.

12 years ago, $800 Specialized 2x7 Sora bike. Plus a $100 compact crank. I need to replace it someday soonish.

$400 for one (Motobecane, Bikes Direct house brand, mostly Tiagra, commuter/errand bike), $800 for the other CAAD6 Ultegra/Tiagra. Both bought used. CAAD6 replaced a Fuji Finest which I paid $400 for new and another $500 or so upgrading components at swap meets over the years and was my race bike for years because I was poors. Never raced the CAAD although it's a better bike minus the wheels. Tougher now. Used prices are higher.
