I've learned the benefits of correct brushes and moist sponges. Primers, too, but you didn't ask about that. Look on this site and youtube about buying artist brushes instead of makeup brushes because they're usually less expensive.

foundation - hand...I've tried my brush, but it doesn't apply well.

Dampen the sponges first. It helps the application look more natural too.

Foundation: sponge.
Concealer: finger.
Eyeliner/eyeshadow: brush.

I use a sponge for my foundation.

A brush for my blush, eyeshadow, and mascara (you know the mascara wand brush that goes with the product).

A pencil for my eyeliner and eyebrows.

And an eyelash curler before I apply mascara.
