I just wonder is it appropriate to have that kind of style (an unbuttoned flannel t-shirt plus a cotton t-shirt beneath it) in NYC during warm weather? If not, what's appropriate then?
The cotton undershirt is a T-shirt. It's called that because it looks like a T. A long-sleeved shirt is usually not called a T-shirt, and a shirt that buttons up the front is never a T-shirt. Earl is wearing a flannel shirt. I've never seen a flannel T-shirt.
An unbuttoned flannel shirt over a T-shirt is common among younger guys. Wearing the shirt unbuttoned is a grungier, very casual look. If a guy buttons the shirt up, it's fine as an everyday casual look among men. It's cold here right now, so lots of guys wear flannel.

Reason: Earl, not Ed!

Thanks. Can I ask you another question as you seem to be the only guru here? I take it as yes. When you say flannel shirt do you mean it must be necessary made of wool?
