I've noticed this and I'm not sure if it's just me.
In most places where flip-flops are usually worn by most people in the summer, some part of the year or where there are four seasons, it seems the footwear is more associated with women or girls.
But in places where people can wear flip-flops or sandals all year round (say, Florida), wearing them is something more commonly done by both genders.
I don't know if I'm right, but is there any explanation for this or am I just making it up?
I would agree that the warmer the climate, the more omnipresent sandals are on both genders. They tend to be mainly the domain of women in climates that only allow open-toed shoes part of the year.

Yeah, that was the trend I was wondering if I was the only one seeing.
But I wonder why this is though, if others are noticing the trend?
I mean why would whether sandals are considered appropriate for just one gender or the other, depend on whether you can wear them all year round or part of the year?
Why'd there be a style double standard for men/women based on climate?

flip flops are common along the south atlantic, in south and north carolina. We have 4 seasons, and the weather changes greatly day to day. in the winter it will get down into the 20's or 30's for a stretch, but you'll have unpredictable days of 65-75 degrees. wearing flip flops in january on warm days feels nice, i pity people who don't take advantage of that.
Where I live (central coast of CA) flip flops are worn by both genders, every age, and with every style of outfit all year round. I guess I dont really notice it anymore
I hate flip flops. You can't run in them. Your feet get dirty. They always fall off. Your toes get banged up (no protection). The straps break. You can't work in the yard with them. You can't play sports with them. They're unsafe for riding a bike.
