Banana Republic is releasing another line of clothing inspired by Mad Men, the drama set in the 1960s focusing on a New York ad agency, in collaboration with the show's costume designer Janie Bryant.

What do you think of the collection? What do you think of the 1960s prim and dapper styles in general? Do they flatter or you or do they just look like costumes?

That's just a sneak preview, the whole thing will be released in a few days but here's the entire first collection they released last year.

I think you have to be a thin guy to pull off the men's line. But the women's stuff is fun. From what I saw it looks like it would work on just about every body type in any age set. I love that era of women's clothing as it showed the female form without being skanky about it. Even the miniskirts usually had something cute and conservative paired with them to avoid that trashy look. The thicker fabrics also were a great help. I may pick up a couple dresses. It seems real vintage of that era has just gotton too old for wear. I used to have a collection of real vintage dresses...anything I find now is just dull and dry feeling. (how fabric ages when its getting read to just fall apart)

I love the styles from that era. And is that Shalom Harlow? Haven't seen her in a while.

Love Mad Men. Some of those styles I see on the street now (of course it's Winter, but there's a lot of Retro being worn).

Probably wouldn't be interested in wearing most of it (especially the long wide skirts) although I already have items like wayfarers, Capris and keds in my closet for Summer from seasons ago that could pass for 60's style. Red lipstick ala 60's style reminds me of bad things so I'm sticking with my nude shades. I like the 70's retro styles better, but that's just me. Although there's one dress on the second link, a sleeveless checkerboard in black that looks like something I'd buy.

I like the clothing sold on this site, particularly many of the dresses -

Vintage Dresses | Pinup Girl Clothing

I own one dress from this site and the quality is excellent. Very flattering to feminine curves without being trashy looking

It is a shame banana republic clothing isn't really cut for the figures that were celebrated then. The banana fit is best for people that do not have a big difference between the size of their waist and hips.

That is one of my biggest complaints, really with all stores. In hips and bust I usually fit a size 2 but my waist is smaller than their 00. Belts can help to an extent, but it's not super attractive to have big folds of fabric bunched up around your middle.

But I'm still glad to see the style return. I like the slightly longer hemlines and clean, tailored look. I just hope they expand beyond the pencil skirt/secretary style into the full skirt/housewife cut. I'm a Betty as far as wardrobe goes.

They can market whatever they want with their second grade clothing and tailoring. It's just one notch above Gap. They are all run by the same suckers.

You say that like it's a bad thing. I quite like Gap and the triumvirate of Gap, Old Navy, and Banana Republic. They are one of the few companies that provides clothing for the tall and they are good places to find casual basics. I don't know that I'd buy anything from any of them at full price but their sales are practically year round.

I'm speaking from a male point of view strictly. Their shirts and pants are SO awfully tailored. At times it would feel like I could stuff a raccoon inside my pants and it would still appear okay. They just don't care anymore. Becoz people always go there.
