I'm more medium color. I usually don't wear sunscreen but I started using Retin on my face. It was necessary once I started the prescription. My daughter is very light and I use sun screen on her. My other daughter is my complexion and usually I don't.
So i've been reading up on this. So what SPF do I need? Keep in mind, i'm darskinned like Akon/Wesley Snipes. Plus I'm from New York, if location matters.
And I heard that some sunscreens leave a white cast on the skin if you're Black. How do I avoid this?
Aveeno will look white for a couple of minutes, and then it will blend in.
Even if you have dark skin, it's still very important to protect your skin from the sun. Too much sun ages you prematurely and exposes you to the risk of skin cancer.
Yes, you still need to wear sun block. UV rays damage skin beneath the layer so it's not always what you see in terms of color that indicate if your skin is being damaged.
^ Great points
Yes wear sunscreen. Also though we have natural SPF, we can still get skin cancer. And it is typically much more dangerous, since it is generally caught pretty late.
Also, sunscreen keeps your skin from showing the signs of aging.
I have another question. How do you know when youre suppose to use sunscreen? I've been reading articles and it states that even on cloudy days you are suppose to wear sunscreen. So am I suppose to wear sunscreen during all seasons too? even winter?
I'm as pale as the driven snow, but I do wear sunscreen everyday. I don't know if you use body lotion, but you can buy lotions with a built-in sunscreen (I know Lubriderm and Aveeno make them, as well as others) and use that as part of your daily routine, at least on your hands/arms, neck and face.
The only ones I know who wear such sunblock stuff are the white folks, which is understandable. If you are darker and are applying such stuff, it's just SILLY. Big time.
