Everyone should watch the VH1 show "I'm Married To a......"; It is either episode 5 or 6, but the show focuses on 2 different men. One is a dominant type who has lots of women submissives who cater to him in real life (like out in public too). The other is a guy who proudly claims he is attracted to his 390lb wife. This is a clear demonstration of an alpha vs. beta male.

Rubbish. If men are "hardwired" for certain so-called "preferences," why have those "preferences" changed so much over time? Why do they vary considerably from culture to culture today, even within the US?

For example, African-American cultures in the US tend to be FAR less weight-obsessed than the mainstream white culture. Many women who the majority of white men would call "fat" and find unattractive are called "thick" and considered desirable by the majority of African-American men.

It has been noted that Marliyn Monroe, who was held up as the ideal of female beauty in the 1940s and 1950s would be "too fat" to get a modeling job today.

If we are all "hard wired " for certain "preferences," why are some men drawn to tall, willowy blondes while others are drawn to petite Asian women?

Not to be graphic, but today, many young men consider it mandatory that women remove all their pubic hair. This was not so in my generation (I am 43). We just took it for granted that grown women's bodies looked like grown women's bodies. Some women removed their hair, some didn't. But it just wasn't an issue. If a "preference" for no pubic hair is "hard wired," how can this be?

This is an extremely simplistic view. Preferences have changed throughout history and there are huge differences depending on the country and the culture.

That's like saying women are "brainwashed" to like taller men. No it's a natural preference

Which preferences are you talking about, though. Certainly women with bleach blonde hair and fake breasts aren't a natural preference, but they are overrepresented in the media.

As a black male, no question that black men like thicker women, but most of the ones who like fat women are like that because they are broke and have no options. Look at the high status black males (rappers, athletes, celebrities), almost none of them are dating fat women.

This is where you lost me. Marilyn Monroe wouldn't be considered fat today, in fact she would get bashed for being skinny. Did you know that her waist was only 22 inches? Do you realize how skinny that is? The average female today is pushing closer to 30 inch waist. Its only fat people who are pushing agendas that make up the Marilyn Monroe would be fat today myth.

I got this from online:

Quote:
Those measurements were 5 ft. 5.5 inches tall; 35 inch bust; 22 inch waist (approximately 2-3 inches less than the average American woman in the 1950s and 12 inches less than average today)

If you got it from online, there is no reason why you shouldn't include the link so we may verify that a) you aren't making it up, and b) it's not a garbage website like a personal blog where the author makes things up.

I think it effects what we believe to be attractive, and that goes for both genders. However, the basic attraction can be summed up by saying that men find young and beautiful women attractive, regardless of current trends and ideals portrayed by media and other social forms. Attraction is instinctual not conscious. It takes place in the reptillian part of our brains. At instinctual level, beauty and youth are equated with fertility and this very basic attraction has been the same throughout history of human civilization and it isnt changing anytime soon. This is why you can never, ever talk someone into being attracted to another person. Ive seen some guys trying to plead with a woman who just rejected them, by trying to rationalize why they would make good mates. Poor souls.

I used it as an example because men who are tall is a preference the vast majority of women in this world have regardless of race, area they grew up in, or culture. I don't think it's a matter of brainwashing by the media because even before we had media tall men was the ideal. There was NEVER a point in history where shorter men were seen as more attractive then taller guys
