Boston in the winter. Dear goodness all the guys in peacoats and scarves...makes riding the subway a pure joy
SF is nice, if super casual, but there are spots where the men are dressed much nicer (Castro, Mission etc.). NYC? I've only been there a few times but the vast majority of the people there are dressed pretty badly. People seemed to be dressed nicer in Hoboken and Jersey City than in Manhattan, which I thought was pretty funny considering the stereotypes

Biased much? I'm a native Californian who spent most of his 67-year life in that state beginning in SoCal (Newport Beach) and ending up in NorCal (Sacramento - that's where the Capitol is, you know)) for the last 20 years.
But sure yur right. My coveralls, torn shirt an' straw hat are right in fashion.

When we retired we did so from the rat race as well. It's kinda like the very old (1965-71) sitcom, Green Acres with Eddie Albert and Eva Gabor (Who?).
Manhattan hands down. Guys just don't dress up in other parts of the country, especially casual non-suit/biz-casual/workwear. And SF used to be the West Coast's version of NYC years ago, but with the growing prominence of web/IT/tech businesses in the past decade we've seen the creep of Silicon Valley culture into the city, meaning it's either dgaf or dress whatever you want. Men in the Beltway still dress in suits & blazers, but there's way too much neo-Prep and Vineyard Vines for my taste.

Speak for yourself, please. Suits aren't as big a deal here, but expensive jeans and shoes certainly are.
