My mom says the way I should wash clothes is by putting all the pants together but lining them in a circle around the center, putting all the darks together and the lights together. Is she right or wrong?
The parts about separating whites and colors is right but I've never heard the one about lining my pants inside the washer. Have to give it a shot next time
If I'm reading correctly, the OP means that mom means to include dark and lights in the same load but putting the darks together and the lights together? Is that right OP? If that's the case, she's wrong. Lights and darks shouldn't go in the same load unless you're POSITIVE that they're colorfast.

True, but it won't work in the modern frontloader, and even in a toploader they are not going to stay evenly spaced out over the entire was/rinse/spin cycle.

not everyone has a modern washer. Ultimately when it comes to laundry each person can do whatever they wish. Heck my wife's teen son will dump globs of detergent and fabric softener all over his clothes at the start of the wash. We tell him the proper way but hes got that teenage "dont tell me what to do" attitude.

I bought a new cheapo top loader with an agitator and it specifically said not to do this. Just put the clothes in piles. It does some kind of balancing sensing thing before it starts.

Maybe it doesn't matter with old machines.
perhaps thats something with new washers. Mine is about 25-30 years old so its done a bit differently.
i dont seperate by lights and darks i seperate by material. i do towels together, jeans and heavy clothing togehter and delicated together..
so your mom is right jeans together. you put them in a circle like that if you have a top loader HE. I think if mom has been doing it that way and your jeans are nice and clean and not faded id take her advice.
