I live in flip-flops. Since I don't wear shoes in the house, they are so easy to put on and take off. I never liked anything covering my feet, even as a child I would go barefoot as much as possible and even sleep with my feet sticking out of the sheets.
Obviously I wouldn't wear them to work or church, but any other time - why not? I don't get the hate for them or for *gasp* exposing your feet to the world. What's wrong with feet?
Flip-flops - usually in and around the house only. I seldom wear them when going anywhere.
Sneakers - usually wear them when I go to the gym, or to play a sport. Every once in awhile I'm in a "I don't give a crap what I look like" mood and will wear them to the grocery store or whatever.
Otherwise, when leaving the house I'm wearing either casual oxfords or dressy oxfords depending on the occasion. Black and brown pairs of each, to work well with the rest of my attire.
I don't like my toes confined so I wear flip flops as long as the weather holds out. That said I don't own the cheaper vinyl flip flops mine are Merrells (I own 5 pairs) which are more of a sport sandal but with a toe thong. My toes are always manicured, no nasty skin on my heels. By the end of summer I have a very interesting tan line
No flip flops ever unless in my own back yard, poolside somewhere, or at the beach.
