Athletic one-pieces and two-pieces from brands such as Speedo and Nike generally cost about $70-100. Yet, bikinis from upscale brands can easily cost about $200 for both pieces. Even non-athletic one pieces from such brands are more expensive than Speedos. I would think that the former should be more expensive since they are worn by professional athletes or by people who swim at least a few times a week as part of their exercise routine; and as such are designed to last longer since the fabric takes a lot of wear tear by being exposed to chlorine or salt water.
Designers charge more because you are willing to pay more to be linked to their name. Just as global brands charge more than generics without the emblem which gives the consumer prestige points with their peers.
You seriously think all these high dollar luxury brands, are high dollar because of the material and design costs?
Of course not. I know that in most cases you pay for the brand name. I'm just curious as to how swimsuits that are designed for everyday training can cost as much as 50% less than bikinis.
