The baseball cap is the "fedora of the late 20th century." 60+ yrs ago men walked around almost exclusively with fedoras on their heads. Only country hillbillies and truckers wore baseball caps.
This is pretty much true. I don't see any class correlation when men are dressed casually. The economic class difference is as it was when John Malloy first wrote "Dress for Success:" Upper-economic class men have a specific leisure wardrobe, lower-economic class men do not.
The current leisure wardrobe for upper class men does include baseball caps in leisure situations, whereas a lower-economic class man is more likely to wear a baseball cap in many more situations.
Personally, I don't wear a baseball cap except on the shooting range, where the brim prevents hot brass from falling behind my eyeglasses. But I'm rarely bare-headed outdoors; I own a nice collection of fedoras and wear them in most other situations.
I stopped wearing ball caps a long time ago and now wear straw Panama Hats instead.
We've been having near 100 degree weather for dayum near 3 months and ball caps just hot in the heat and only shade you from the sun in the front.
I think that they have better utility and style then ball caps do.
On a side note, I buy them at the swap meet for $10 and not at this website.
Something my friend and I are discussing. What is your opinion?
She noticed that in poor areas, a lot of men wear them
LOL....you mean like this loser? Really...you and your friend are likely in your 20's and looking for meaningless ways to cross guys off your list. When you are in your 40's you will complain that you are in the same boat as the "ball cap" guys are today and whine how it's unfair. Sorry. #truth
Items of clothing are not low class. Behavior and attitudes are.
