If you're so concerned about the pain, perhaps getting a tattoo isn't for you. Even with numbing cream it can still hurt and many tattoo artists are against using it.
My artist uses Band-Aid Hurt Free Antiseptic wash to wipe down the area during breaks. Doesn't help a bit - still hurts. I just had a session on Tues afternoon, in fact.
Tattoos don't feel good, make peace with that up front and decide that the tattoo is worth it. Concentrating on something else helps. Lots of people wear headphones and read/look at their phones during the tattoo.
Plastic surgeons have a numbing cream....works great for shallow injections.....you'll still feel some of it, but it's less than without.
It's a lidocaine/prolocaine prescription....it is NOT "over the counter"!
