Is there something about them physically that make them more comfortable than other pants? I have other pants that are also made of similar fabric with a stretchy and comfortable waistband, but leggings are just so much relaxed feeling. Why is that?

And yes, I do wear leggings even in the summer because my office is so dang cold with the AC that I can't control, I'm freezing all the time. When I try wearing more typical summer pants or capris, I end up pulling out my space heater! lol! I do feel fortunate that I work someplace where they are considered ok to wear. My boss doesn't like people to wear jeans (even though they are ok under the general dress code) but she's fine with leggings.

Because they are more like stockings than PANTS. And they are NOT pants, not by any stretch of imagination! (see the pun?)...but they aren't pants. They are leg coverings...that's all.

Not the ones I wear. They are thick spandex, like the ones bicycle racers wear. Not see-through at all. You'd have to be blind to mistake them for stockings.

Mine aren't thick spandex, they are the Lularoe ones, or a similar soft stretchy fabric. But yes, not stockings.

They are not very flattering though, are they? Especially when 'larger' ladies wear them.

I don't know, I usually get compliments on my leggings outfits. You have to choose your tops wisely to complement your shape, no matter what size you are.

I find most of the workout leggings are really thick so that is my go to!

Because you can get fat with them, they stretch and "grow" with you. They won't cause complain if you gain 20 lbs. Which is good - and not good.

The right leggings paired with the right cute top look great. I love them for my dance classes, lounging at home or even going to the store. I also just bought some to go under a dress that is a bit too short to wear alone.

If they were snug just right, they act as compression garment and improve venous return. THAT makes your legs feel more comfortable. less tired. Also, they generally snug up musculature with similar effect.
