We are attending a wedding that is in the evening that is labeled as Summer Formal.

I am wearing a full length floral dress and my husband is wearing a medium blue linen suit.

He mentioned he is sick of ties and I suggested a Bow Tie instead. I also said a pocket square would look great.

He said he is too old for a bow tie. He is mid 50's.

Is there an age limit for wearing bow ties?

Not IMO. My maternal grandfather wore one periodically into his 80s. He was always a classy dresser and looked just great!

OTOH, if the bow tie is polka dot with blinky lights...

I actually think “older man” when I think bow tie. (Or pasta - sorry, it’s nearly time for dinner lol)

I mean, Orville Redenbacher always wore one.

Tell him to suck it up and wear a real tie unless he's wearing a tux.

I think if he's wearing a blue linen suit, a bow tie could work as a statement. It sounds like a lot of the people who are saying "absolutely no" aren't familiar with the resurgence of bow ties in recent fashion.

Ok, that would likely work. What type of hat?

Nope.........I have a cousin that is an old yankee usually dressed out of a brooks brothers store and he wears them all the time.

In college I had a marketing professor that was kind of a big dorky guy and he wore a bow tie. He told us he sells copy machines for Xerox. We laughed, then he put his W2 on the overhead projector, he made over $325,000 selling copy machines, room was silent.

He said in the land of nameless salesman, everyone remembers the big dorky guy with the bow tie! He wore one daily. That guy was named Dave Hinkes, almost 30 years later I still remember him like I was in class yesterday.

If you are in NC a bow tie would be perfect, and there will probably be others wearing one.

53 here. I started wearing a bow tie a few years ago. I've actually been complemented on it several times.
