My answer to high clothing prices.... thrift shops, consignment stores and... eBay. I've gotten some really nice black label Armani suits and Ralph Lauren purple label items on eBay for under $100 dollars. I never pay full retail for any of my clothes and shoes. I'm the same way about my jewelry and watch purchases. I love secondhand purchases.
I suggest thrift stores as well. I've found Eddie Bauer's slacks with the tags still on for 6 dollars. Nice blouses for 3 or 4. Much cheaper than Macy's (which I loved shopping at Hechts for Liz Claiborne).
Womens clothes are too expensive! Some stores I don't bother buying anything new, like The Limited, Ann Taylor, and Talbots - they're all so expensive! A jacket for a suit at the Limited is $138, a skirt suit at Ann Taylor is in the $300 range! Wacaol bras $48, panties $25, Victorias Secret - lots of overpriced stuff!
How do you women cope with such expensive stuff? Do you often bankrupt yourself or run high credit card balances? Or just have small collection of stuff?
I totalled my skirt suit collection in my TX apt, over $8900 worth! I still have lots more in Chicago!
That's why you need to learn to shop second hand stores.
I do shop thrift and ebay too. But the best stuff has always been brand new from stores - and I try to get them on sale or with coupons. And often Outlets stink.
My strategy is to buy some basics that are more pricey...suits, pants, jeans, skirts, blouses, tops, etc. Then, I shop at Target and Old Navy for the rest. I buy a nice handbag now and then, but I sale shop big time.
This is what I do also. Although lately my budget has been more constrained so I've been buying most of my stuff at the lower end. Clearance at Target has proved to be a pretty good bet for things that wear out quickly like t-shirts, tops, knits, etc. I just picked up a bunch of the Go International stuff for super low prices, like $4-15. These were items that were originally marked between $20-30, and all the stuff is well made.
I'd posted against Forever 21 on a recent thread but there are some moderately OK things there too.

I'm small, and have a hard time finding clothes to fit, appropriate for my age! So, when I do find something I like, the cost isn't my 1st priority! (Of course, I'm not going to bankrupt myself for a blouse!!!)
I do manage to find some nice pieces in places like Ross and Marshalls. You have to have loads of time to shop there, but once in awhile, I'll find some thing I really love for less that $20!!!! (sometimes MUCH less!)
But, I do shop at Ann Taylor and the Loft, since they carry the smaller sizes--our Macy's, Penney's, etc... don't carry anything under a size 6. Frustrating!
Are you SERIOUS?
Nothing under a 6!
I was gearing up to shop in person this holiday...I hope the buyers at mine have stuff that is smaller....
OMG! Ru Paul - the Supermodel of the World!!! I forgot about that guy!
