I am going to buy one today, for the dark freckles on my nose. I don't mind freckles..but mine aren't really cute...I wish they were..but they look ..well...they just don't flow with my face lol. They are from sun damage.

I want to make sure I buy a decent lightening lotion. Can you suggest a few? I'm not going to put it all over..just on the ridge of the top of my nose where the sun spots are.

I'm hoping for results in 1-2 months.

The kind you buy in stores is only 2% hydroquin (bad spelling). I did this and got very weak results. Go to a dermatologist and get a prescription for the 4% perscription cream. OMG! You see results in a few weeks, it works great. Don't waste your time on the 2%.

It's dangerous to lighten your skin for freckles.

If you have sun damage you use a vitamin A cream that contains retinol.

Unfortunately you do need a prescription for that from a dermatologist.

There are some over the counter products which contain retinol and you can buy them in drug stores.

Never use skin bleach for freckles it's dangerous to your health to use skin bleach of any kind.

Thank You!!! I won't put bleach. I'm definitely trying to be safe. It's just for the ridge of my nose..and a bit around my chin as I have slight acne scars.

I was going to suggest asking Michael J but since he's dead, unless you know how to get in touch with his skin specialist.

Several years ago I was working with East Indians and in spring the Indian ladies were pre-occupied with skin whitening. Of course I didn't care then since I was preoccupied with tanning my winter-pale skin. But, I know that these products do exist.

Recently, a friend of mine was having questions of how to lighten appearing liver spots. I think skin whitening could help with liver spots, too.

This is a great article on skin whitening:

"Mainly the skin whitening ingredients works in two ways to give you a whiter skin: 1. By absorbing the UV rays, thus preventing the sun from darkening your skin. 2. By reducing the production of melanin, the skin pigment found in your skin which is responsible for skin darkening.

Most skin whiteners currently on the market contain ingredients (hydroquinone, ascorbic acid, kojic acid, arbutin, azealic acid, glycyrrhetinic acid (licorice extract)) that act as direct inhibitors of tyrosinase, the enzyme in the skin pigment cells (melanocytes) that make melanin.

Arbutin is a new type of skin de-pigmentation and whitening agents, an extract of Bearberry plant which produced by a solid /liquid extraction, an environmentally friendly process. Arbutin protect the skin against damage caused by free radicals, Arbutin is a skin whitening agent which is very popular in Japan and Asian countries for skin de-pigmentation, Arbutin inhibits the formation of melanin pigment by inhibiting Tyrosinase activity. It may be used to repress the virulence of bacterial pathogens and to prevent contaminating bacteria, it is also used for treating allergic inflammation of the skin . More recently, Arbutin has been used to prevent pigmentation and to whiten the skin beautifully. It can be used to whiten the skin, to prevent liver spots and freckles, to treat sunburn marks and to regulate melanogenesis.

Arbutin is very safe skin agent for external use which does not have toxicity, stimulation, unpleasant odor or side effect such as Hydroqinone. The encapsulation of Arbutin constitute a delivery system to potentialize the effect in time. It is a way to incorporate the hydrophilic Arbutin in lipophilic media. Arbutin give three main properties; Whitening effects, anti- age effect and UVB/ UVC filter."

Skin whitening - skin care guide

When you google "skin creams with arbutin", a wealth of results appear - from Asian countries.

AMBI makes a skintone fade cream, you can also try prescription Mellanex, it's 4% hydroquinone, which is the lightening agent.
I use it on the small patches on my face, and they have really even-ed out. Hardly noticeable anymore. But you have to be diligent about applying sunscreen, or the spots will simply come back again from sun exposure.
If you are looking over the counter, read the labels of fade creams to ensure they contain hydroquinone. (as one of the first ingredients, at least 2%)
Good luck!
