As for where I live, in suburban Chicago, I think the last time I saw any woman younger than 45 in pantyhose was about 10 years ago. Along with the discomfort issue, many simply detest the look.
Pantyhose has gone the way of the vinyl LP, 8-track, VCR, non-granite countertops, coffee from the grocery store, etc. They belonged to a different era. Different, not neccessarily better, but different.
Yeah, this is what I thought. Here in the Dallas area, you seldom see pantyhose being worn anymore. Not saying I like that trend especially, but that's the way it seems to be.
I hated pantyhose and I was glad to see them go away. I'm very long-legged yet short-waisted, and the crotch always hung about 1-3" below where it was supposed to sit and I had to roll the top to keep it from sitting above my waist, no matter what brand I bought, meaning I spent the entire day tugging them back up. Hated, hated, HATED that.
I live in New England, and most of the women I know wear them, except during the summer. And if you are working, it just looks more professional to wear them. My perfectly thin, teenage daughter even wears them in the winter for special occasions. Maybe it's a regional thing. I can see why they would be uncomfortable in a warm environment.
For work when I wear a dress or skirts in the winter it's tights/textured stockings and in spring/summer it's hose.
For all non-work activities, it's either a bare leg (summer only) or stockings not pantyhose. Guys think they are sexy and I do too.
