I just went to see a doctor for a breast augmentation and breast lift. The doctor told me that with a breast lift and an augmentation done in the same surgery/same day I could only go to a B cup. Or I could have two surgeries, one to have the lift and then the second one for the augmentation, where I could have any size implant put it. The reason for this is so they don't have to worry about closing up tight skin around a big implant. Was anyone else told this? I have never heard of this before. I always heard of people getting it all done in one day. Thanks.

Baloney.

Check out a different doc and do a lot of research before you decide.

Always talk to multiple surgeons before you decide. But it may not be "baloney" - it sounds logical (depending on your current breast size and the size of the implant, it CAN put a lot of strain on skin and with the much larger openings of a breast lift, it may very well be a concern) and although I'm sure there are surgeons who will do both in one day regardless of size, you don't know that they aren't taking a risk or that the quality of their results is as high. It's very possible this surgeon you spoke to is trying to minimize risks and increase quality results - which not all surgeons do.

My mom has had implants for about 20 years and she is an OR nurse so she works with several plastic surgeons - if you want, I can ask her about this issue and relay the info back to you? You may also find more help at: http://messageboards.ivillage.com/iv-bhbreastimpl (broken link)

Hope you don't mind, I already asked my mom and she confirmed there is truth to what this doctor is telling you. This was her reply:

Quote:
Skin will only stretch so far at one time. With a breast lift, there is a lot of cutting, and suturing involved (that will also leave scars). With a breast implant, there is only a small incision, about 1-2 inches, usually under the breast. So the skin of the breast can stretch without worrying about tearing at the suture line.
So, yes, you should only have one procedure done at a time if you want big breasts. If she needs the lift, get it, then talk about size later or be satisfied with a B cup
She also warned not to get just the implants and think that will also give you a lift - you'll just wind up with big saggy breasts instead of big perky breasts. But I assume you know that if you're looking into the lift already.

You should still get second opinions but keep in mind that just because a surgeon is willing to do something doesn't mean it's the best thing for you. I knew a woman who wanted a facelift when she was only 30 and every doctor she went to refused to do it, saying she's too young and it would ruin her face. She finally found a doctor who would do it and guess what? Her skin was pulled so tight, she couldn't close her eyes and had to sleep with ointment on her eyes so they wouldn't dry out. As you can imagine, it looked terrible. Shamefully, instead of blaming herself for not listening to the doctors who warned her, the SUED the doctor who was willing to take the risk to do what she wanted. Personally, if I was getting surgery, I would always go with a cautious doctor not willing to take any risks.

I've heard something kind of similiar that after having a masectomy one can not go much larger than what they originally were. ?????

I'm going to the doctor soon and getting another mammogram. My question to my doctor is going to be if and when I have this VERY LARGE cyst removed will I need reconstructive surgery. I'm a C cup and I keep thinking that if I have something the size of a LARGE egg removed that it surely is going to change the shape and size of that one breast. I don't see how it can not change the size of it. THEN, if they do put in an implant it would be only in 1 and not the other.???? I can't see that happening either. After my mammo and seeing how things have changed I am going to ask about a double masectomy and then breast augmentation. I don't need a lift as the girls are actually in great shape and still "up where they belong". Just got this dang cyst problem that is not getting any better.......

There are many ways to put in a fake boob or do a lift.

If you needed two sessions its due to the amount of sagging with the combo of the implant size. Implants can lift boobs if you get the round implant and not the tear shaped implant. Just go do 50 pushups and see how much the lift from making your chest muscle swell up a little bit to get a bit of the idea.

When you overstretch the skin with big implants it can increase scaring, stretch marks and make for a problem with the follow up massage. You must massage your boobs around when the implant is healing otherwise the pocket where the implant is can scar and clamp down on your boobs making them look like those fake "porno boobs" that just look like round fruits glued to the chest. ( encapsulation)
The other thing with sagging and putting in an implant of a good size it that it will lift it up and could change the nipple direction. So you could need additional work to correct that or any natural uneven breast difference that was highlight by putting implants. That doc sounds to me like someone who is cautious and does not want to give you cheapo boobs. But I would talk to other and look for one that specializes in that area. If you are not even on both sides, do go to someone that has experience with that. Uneven and sagging is a most always a multi trip fix.

Momof2dfw: Find the right doctor to cut out that cyst. Some are better than others but I have also read about your own fat being injected or some fat being sucked out of the other one. They do sell bra inserts for lumpectomy:
Lumpectomy Products

^^^never bought anything from there so do check if its a legit store. I just wanted to give you an example.

I had both procedures at once, breast implants and breast lift at the same time, and I went above a B cup. I had many different consultations with different surgeons, and all but one said I could have both procedures done at once. Only one surgeon gave me a limitation as far as cup size, and he was just intimidated (and later I found out he also had a blemished record).

No, the surgeon only told you that because of their own preferences. They are not comfortable doing the procedure for one reason or another. You will find there are just as many opinions as there are plastic surgeons, and the only way to find the one you are happy and comfortable with is to go on numerous consultations.

The majority of breast augmentation and breast lifts are done simultaneously. Try Dr. Aguiar in Tampa, he is a plastic surgeon comfortable doing both

Thanks everyone! I did find a Doctor that said he could def do both. He seems very smart and knows what he is doing. So, I think I am going with him.

P.S. He is also younger than the first Doctor I went to.

Young does not always mean better when it comes to stuff like this. But good luck! Don't forget to do the background check and look for complaints on him.

Just think of Kayne Wests mom's conflicting opinions too on if she could even get the plastic surgery she wanted. Docs kept telling her no until she found a yes man. So mentally and financially prepare yourself for a second surgery despite what the young doctor says.

You should probably review your health care plan too as to see if it covers complications that are medical from elective surgery.
