Hi all,

My husband and I are in the late 30's range and our children are grown (the youngest turned 18 this year and is off to college). We currently reside in Baton Rouge LA and have come to despise it. My husband has been in law enforcement or corrections for the last 8 years, with his most current job being in the local Juvenile Justice Center. The program they are employing is appalling and the working conditions are inhuman. He had to work 3 - 16 hour shifts back to back from Thursday through Sunday afternoon this week. We have been looking at relocating somewhere where there is much less crime, quiet, peaceful, country surroundings, with a better climate. We've looked briefly at the upper midwest, but are now focused on NWA. We visited Jasper for a week during the Christmas holidays and fell in love. The biggest question we have is are there job opportunities in the areas mentioned in the Title? My husband is going to have to quit his job - no matter what we decide to do for relocation because he cannot keep working these kinds of hours in terrible conditions any longer. The job market here is pathetic. The crime rate is enormous and it's way to hot and humid for us. We are considering taking our last paychecks and striking out towards NWA, obtaining a rental and immediately searching for jobs. So I ask in all humility, are there jobs to be had?

I appreciate your comments. Thank you.

Do not move without a job or at least a prospect of a job!

With the internet, you could search for law enforcement/corrections jobs. Fayetteville does have a nice new juvenile detention center. Here's the city's job posting page: AccessFayetteville.org | The City of Fayetteville, Arkansas *|*Careers

Here's Washington County's site: Washington County, AR : Job Postings

Looks like there is an opening at JDC now

Also consider checking with UofA.

While the humidity here will likely be less, I wouldn't consider NWA to be a retreat from heat and humidity.
