Also, how much will be the cost of utilities as in PHX, it is high (water n electricity both) ?

Thanks in advance for all your input
You will want a place close to I540 if you want to be near shopping and restaurants. Actually anywhere you live in Bentonville will only be 15 minutes tops to shopping and restaurants.

We live closer to the XNA side of Bentonville and love it out here! We are away from town and feel like we are secluded, but town is only 5 minutes away! Plus, we never hear the airplanes coming in and out of the airport. I prefer it to actually living right in town. There are two or three apartment complexes off Hwy 12~The Links being the newest one. I would say that anywhere you decide to live in Bentonville is going to be fairly safe compared to other areas! Good luck!

Default reply to your Arkansas questions.

I have lived in Arkansas for 49 years in the NWA area and I know Walmart well. Here are some answers to your questions.

1. XNA airport is a small yet very comfortable airport to get around in. One of the best I've been around. Walmart uses it all the time.

2. If you are going to be working at the Walmart Corporate Office you will be too far away from Oklahoma about 2 hrs to Tulsa so that isn't reasonable to do, maybe for longer weekends but not every weekend. If you are flying back on the weekends not sure if that is to visit family or if it is part of your territory. If you are just visiting family; do what my boyfriend does. He too works for Walmart and relocated here almost a year ago. His car was shipped here and he flew with his clothing. His territory is on the same coast as his family so on holidays and whatever weekends he wants he just flies home.

3. Crime rate is not bad at all compared to bigger cities. No matter where a person is they should always be aware of their surroundings. I have never been worried about the crime rate.

4. We don't have a high rate of grand theft auto as the big cities do. But the more popular car rentals are National, Avis, Budget, Enterprise and Hertz to name a few and you can make those arrangements at the airport. As far as a place to stay. I would highly recommend Main Stay in Rogers, AR. It is very close to Bentonville and Walmart Home Offices. That is were my boyfriend lives and it is very nice. They even have shuttle services to the airport. It isn't far to the XNA airport either.

5. We have all four seasons. It gets cold here and it snows. But not like New York.

Hope this helps. Welcome to Arkansas.

You're responding to someone asking about a move two years ago, so it's unlikely he'll find it useful. But others may.

Default considering moving to NW arkansas

I find a lot of these post helpfull.
My husband and I are considering moving to the rogers area with in the next year, and I find the feedback on here to be the most honest regarding life in this area.
We are currently living in UPSTATE NY, toward the adirondacks, but like most we are sick of the taxes the housing costs and the lack of employment, NW arkansas seemed to offer what we are looking for, and a way of life we grew up in. We plan on spending a few weeks this summer (2012) visiting and looking the places over, probally not enough time but its all we can do.
Our concern is not seeing communities for what they really are, as far as crime, and employment, to mention a few.
We would hate to rent a house or buy one, and make a mistake about the area.
We are middle age, children grown. I am a nurse and my husband is in security.
Any suggestions and advice would truely be helpful, as things listed on Craigslist and city sponsered sites are not always what they seem
Thank you
Crystal

Crystal~

Some things to think about before your visit--Will you be "retiring" or will you be looking for employment if you move to NWA? Commute time is something you will definitely need to consider if you work. With winter weather upon us again, it is important to note, NWA does not have the resources to ready roads before/after snow as compared to other locales which get lots of snow.

What are your interests? Arts, nature, sports?

How close do you want to be to shopping/restaurants/attractions? Many folks asking about the area use the catch-word "walkability".

Health care? Will you need access to speciality doctors? (We don't like to think about these things at middle age )

A suggestion--study all the threads on the different towns in NWA--Rogers, Bentonville, Eureka Springs, Springdale, Fayetteville, Bella Vista. We have some very knowledgable residents who will give their opinions on which town may be best for you based on your wants and needs.

Good luck.

OrGreatEscape points out some very important things to consider.

I would say, in you and yours husbands fields of work you should not have a huge problem finding employment.

We have some outstanding medical facilities and specialists in all fields, but not always a huge choice, depending on your insurance. This is not meant to be a negative comment, but just think everyone needs to know, it isn't Los Angeles, or Dallas or whatever where you will find 100 specialists in any one field.

We have some great restaurants, I can't imagine anyone saying we don't have a good selection, but again, that doesn't mean you will find 20 Indian restaurants for example. We have a good mixture of the typical chain restaurants, from fast food to more upscales and we have some very good independently managed choices.

The biggest downfall for many is the lack of spectator sports: it is the Hogs or nothing pretty much..

Hope this helps you in some ways. As for where to live, there are some awesome choices, depending on your overall views. There is everything from family neighborhoods, to adult living and towns that are considered conservative, liberal or inbetween. The same with religion. Everyone thinks of NWA as being Bible Belt, yes, religion does play a part in many lives, but you will also meet a lot of people who are not involved in church activities, who do not even belong to a religious organization or who are part timers.

Don't forget the Naturals! The baseball stadium is excellent, and we have a darn good team from Northwest Arkansas.

hang my head is shame..remember I spent many years in Ca and Texas, so I think major leagues. Yes, we are Naturals supporters, just wish the Royals could turn some of those great Naturals players into a winning team up north.

Thank you for your comments. We are pretty basic, we like neighbors just not too close, not really concerned about walkability. We are religious, to a point ( we attend church when our work schedules don't conflict). We would rather eat at the local mom and pop places. As for entertainment, not big sports fans unless the PBR comes to town then off my husband goes (lol).
Medically, it seems the same as here, you have to travel to boston or NYC for real specialized practices (both about 3 hours away) As far as work we both travel about 20-30 minutes now, and as for the road conditions, we have four wheel drives (I refuse to drive in ice no matter what I drive)
So it appears to possibly be a nice fit for us, as long as we able to secure employment.
