Flagstaff wins recognition for lowest wages. I've noticed we have a difficult time retaining staff because wages are competitive. Even government jobs pay less in Flagstaff than the same position in Phoenix.

"In no metro area are adjusted private-sector wages lower than Flagstaff, Ariz. After adjusting for cost of living, workers there earned an average of just $14.31 an hour last year."

One is forced to commute from quite a distance unless they work for NAU or the Forest Service from an income standpoint. The cost of living for mortgages and rentals is absolutely atrocious in proportion to the rate of pay for mostly service sector jobs requiring at best a high school diploma. Scenery does not pay the bills. I find Flag probably the worst bang for your buck in the whole state but Prescott is getting close too.

Tucson and Phoenix show average wages well above 20 bucks an hour. Good luck with that......

I guess when you count the folks in PV and surroundings, that might be the average, but average Joe is happy with 15 bucks an hour, that is why I will never work for an AZ based company.

Wealthy transplants, retail business owners, and people probably working at home remotely (from a company located elsewhere) I bet skew the numbers drastically. A lot of the City of Phoenix feels poor. Tucson, mostly, feels poor.

But at least in the Phoenix metro there is more opportunity as our economy is big. A lot of small and national businesses here and I always see or hear about more popping up. This must be a great place to own a business (if you have the means to do so, of course)

Hey, did you see this in the Arizona Daily Sun? Seems like news to me, being last in the whole nation.

Nope, I didn't either

No, I didn't see it there. However, KNAU did carry it.
