just a bit of a clarification: though very nice and new, the Twin Arrows is not in Flagstaff....it's a Navajo-owned casino/hotel about 18 highway miles east of the east part of Flag in a decidedly rural area.....

Default Grand Canyon Vacation

Very helpful information. Thanks all for responding. We get to Sedona on the 2nd of Oct. and staying there till Oct. 5th, then driving to Grand Canyon. With people's helpful information, I did get a room in Maswik Lodge in GC for 2 nights. Though it was a bit expensive, I rather be close. We are planning to stay in Flagstaff for couple of nights, just wanted to know where will be a good location or hotel to stay in Flagstaff. Also, what the weather be like around the first week in Oct. Is it cold there yet?

glad you got the Maswik...it's set back from the rim a bit, but is entirely fine....basic accommodations, nothing fancy....

in Flag, avoid any place on East Route 66 (east of downtown) as train noise is sometimes a problem....though many crossings have now been signaled with "wayside horns" directed only at cars and pedestrians in the immediate area and, so, trains don't have to blow their loud horns all over the neighborhood, it can still be bothersome to some.....Flag is motel/hotel heaven - almost all chains are represented....if you stay on a weekday, you might enjoy slightly lower rates...busy with tourists and locals

weather will be cold/cool at night.....warms quickly in the sunlight, though.....remarkable difference between shade and direct sun in our low humidity

Correct, it's about 30 minutes east of flagstaff. It does however have a flagstaff address, but is not right in town.
