Hey All,

I'm a 39 year old single male looking to move to Florida.
I like the idea of Florida because I can bike (bicycle) year round rather than where I live which has brutal winters.

I like a good night life but understand that means crime so I've learned to live near the nightlife but not in it.

I'm considering Miami and Tampa\St Pete.
Miami seems a little pricey for my budget so I started looking in Tampa\St Pete.

I'm willing to live in a very small cottage (rather than an apt.), preferably in a safe suburb within a mile or three of the action.
I've already found a lot of affordable cottages in Tampa but don't know the safe areas from the crime infested ones.

I'd love information on both Miami and Tampa\St Pete and what I should expect.
Like where the downtowns area and the safest areas close to them.

If you reply I'll fill you in with more information.

I would post in the Tampa and Miami forums for info on specific neighborhoods.

It is helpful if you would post your housing budget, family size, job location/skills, and just a general description of your situation.

Roadie, commuter rider, or both? In terms of recreational cycling, Tampa/St. Pete's comes out way ahead. The Suncoast Trail north of town is excellent, and you can actually find hills by Florida standards by going east-northeast toward Clermont.

The triathletes I know in Miami complain that there are really only a handful of good and safe bike loops in the area.

When the mention of Miami may conjure up visions of a tropical paradise — beaches, palm trees and ocean surf — it is also one of the world's centers of commerce, fashion and entertainment. Greater Miami offers visitors the cutting edge of urban chic. Miami has evolved into an international destination and the world's most famous fun-in-the-sun playground. Visitors are lured to the area year round with perfect weather, award-winning beaches and a celebrity-driven, sizzling nightlife scene that grooves to an only-in-Miami beat.

Thanks for your responses.
I'll try and post this elsewhere as well.
RMD3819 - I'll work on my info and have that in the next post. Some of that stuff is easy to come up with and some isn't.

I'm definitely a street, city rider and given Miami's traffic I figure that would work really well. I could probably get around faster than a car in a lot of places, but I will have a car also.

Thanks again and I will flesh this out and post it elsewhere as well once I've got a solid template.
